LETS KIDS HAVE FUN WITH "TANG YUAN"...

Well, my initial intention to set-up this blog is to sell babies / kids apparels, but today I feel like want to add some “sweetener” to my blog, because today is “Dong zhi” for Chinese, a day to remember for re-union and eating “Tang Yuan”, a Chinese dessert make from glutinous rice.
Tang Yuan normally prepared in round shapes. The roundness of Tang Yuan symbolizes togetherness and completeness of the family. But when it comes to my children’s hand, they just want to have fun in preparing it, they like to mix whatever colors available and will make lots of different shapes as they wish, they will make "snakes", "eggs", "boys",  "girls", "ball", "pillow", .... all by their imagination !

I’m not a good cook, but would like to share with you some simple steps for making Tang Yuan, hope you’ll have a fun time with your children too!
FYI, you can buy frozen Tang Yuan in the supermarket or get the semi prepared glutinous dough from wet market then just make it into small balls or whatever shapes you like. If you wish to DIY, you may follow the steps here, i.e  :
Ingredients :
·       300 gm glutinous rice flour ( tepung pulut ) mix with 2 tablespoon of sugar
·       ½ cup hot water
·       Brown sugar to taste
·       Screwpine leaves ( pandan leaves )
·       Food coloring ( optional )
·       Fresh ginger ( optional )
Preparation :
1.    Put the flour into a big bowl then slowly mix with hot water until you get a dough that doesn’t stick to your hands.
2.    Pinch off the dough into smaller bits and roll it into small balls or whatever shapes your children likes.
3.     Put the balls into boiling water and cook until they float. Take it out from boiling water and put into cold water to prevent the tang yuan from sticking to each other and to firm up the dough.
4.    Prepare another pot of boiling water by adding brown sugar, pandan leaves and ginger to the soup.
5.    Put the cooked balls into the soup and serve.

HAPPY DONG ZHI & HAPPY MAKING TANG YUAN !
